Anti Invasion Defences.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As an enthusiast for all matters relating to the second world war I was very surprised to find when I moved house to Scotland substantial lengths of coastal defences still in place with only small amounts of it being removed and some buried by the continual shifting sand dunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have attached a selection of pictures from one of the sites that I know of in Lossie, although I do know of at least three more including some of a gun battery, that still remains although these structures have the inevitable graffiti now much evident. You will also note that some of the buildings still show evidence of the camouflage that has been worn away on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a fascinating area for the WWII defence enthusiast. If you look on an ordnance survey map at the coast here you\u2019ll see what looks like a line of Pylons running sor approximately 3 miles along the coast \u2013 it\u2019s not pylons \u2013 it\u2019s a line of AT cubes with a pillbox every 3rd of a mile. These alternate between a rectangular pillbox with no seaward facing loopholes and the same Type 24 machine gun pillboxes as at Roseisle. The ends of the line disappear under the pebbly beach at one end and straight into the sand dunes at the other. They re-appear further to the west in the forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
