The PSG members cleared a line of anti-tank blocks on the very edge of the village.

This line is archaeologically important in that it helps to prove that Maiden Newton was in deed an Anti-Tank Island.

AERIAL VIEW OF THE ANTI-TANK BLOCKS

Traces of lines of A/T blocks to the west and south of the village combined with the blocks we cleared to the north of the town clearly indicate that the village was given all round protection.

During the previous week the Countryside Warden and his team had dome the "donkey work" of clearing back the brambles and weeds. The PSG team exposed a few more blocks at one end of the line and cleared up the area.

The day was highly successful, with a large number of visitors to the site.

The majority of the local people that we spoke to were completely unaware of the existence of the line of concrete blocks but they were all interested in the history behind the line.

The PSG consisted of Tim Denton, Mike Hopton, Keith Taylor and his wife, Will Ward and Family (the two boys were particularly hard working and courageous), Adam the ranger and his fiancé, Richard Drew, Doreen Smith, Carol Matthews and John & Bryony Hellis.
