MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES

JOHN HELLIS B.A.(Hons)

PILLBOX STUDY GROUP CO-ORDINATOR & FORUM MODERATOR

John Hellis first became interested in Defence Structures over 40 years ago when little was known about 20th Century fortifications.

ALISTAIR GRAHAM KERR

PILLBOX STUDY GROUP `LOOPHOLES` EDITOR

Alistair comes from a military background with both parents being archaeologists. So, from an early age he had an interest in defences of one sort or another and by the age of twelve he knew about the pillboxes around his home in South Oxfordshire.

However, it wasn’t until he was in his teens and his involvment in the research with the late Henry Wills that he learnt much more about them.

Later still he became a member of the Fortress Study Group (FSG) and became friends with a somewhat younger John Hellis.

He has also worked with John Hellis and Jim Earle as a member of Defence of Britain Project Team.

Alistair devotes a great deal of time to the PSG as EDITOR of our journal `LOOPHOLES`.

TIM DENTON

PILLBOX STUDY GROUP FORUM MODERATOR

An enthusiastic member of the Pillbox Study Group, Tim can trace his interest in WW2 defences back to the summer of 1967, when as a young lad he remembers playing in pillboxes at Winchfield.

Annually during the winter months he arranges guided PSG War Walk days for members along the route of the GHQ Line in North Hampshire and Surrey.

Since 2004 he has been responsible for and involved in dozens of interesting Pillbox and defence renovations.

As well as the website Tim is also a regular contributor of interesting written articles for the PSG society journal, Loopholes.

During 2009 a limited run booklet about the wartime defences on the Basingstoke Canal was written and illustrated by Tim; this was produced by the Canal society with all proceeds from its sale going towards the care and maintenance of the Hampshire/Surrey waterway.

Married with two daughters Tim lives on the Berkshire/Hampshire border, he currently runs a large successful used car business in a career that spans more than 30 years.
