The lozenge type is found only in the Northeast of England. The type is an elongated hexagon in shape with long front and rear walls and two short angled walls at either end. The entrance is offset from the centre of the rear wall and is covered by an attached blast wall. Internally there is an AR wall the runs laterally along the centre of the chamber. There are four embrasures in the front wall and one each in the end walls. The rear wall has two embrasures and sometimes there is an extra embrasure in the blast wall.
